Update
We are all aware of the current challenges and pressures faced by general practice and our national health service. We at Cahernane Medical have seen a significant increase in our workload since Covid-19 hit, GPs have taken on an increasing workload, triaging covid patients, our normal work and also vaccination roll outs. In addition, the health service is seeing a shortage of GPs and nurses, this in turn is adding to the current pressures faced by general practice and our colleagues.
At Cahernane Medical we have had to change the way we work to accommodate the changes we have been faced with. We endeavour to deal with all urgent requests for GP appointments on the same day. We have emergency clinics every morning and afternoon, emergency consultations are done by telephone triage or in surgery appointments. Please note routine (non – urgent appointments) are booked up to 2 to 3 weeks ahead.
We have seen a significant increase in calls to the surgery and we appreciate being put on hold or waiting for a call to be answered can be frustrating. We have been active in looking at ways of easing the volume of calls. Patients can visit our website to book their repeat prescription and or repeat social welfare certificate or email their request to the practice. If you require a repeat prescription please order this in advance we will not issue repeat prescriptions on the same day the request is made, you need to allow 72 hours for a repeat prescription.
All blood tests are GP led, if you have no underlying conditions and are not part of chronic disease management programme, you will need to book a consultation with a GP and following the outcome of the consultation the GP will or will not request a blood test for you. Blood tests are not done at a patients request.
Our receptionists are doing their very best to facilitate all calls to the practice. We are exceptionally lucky to have a fantastic team of people who work exceptionally hard and want to help and support patients of the practice.
We would like to point out that we will not tolerate any abuse aimed to any members of our staff. Any form of abuse will result in a patient being struck off our practice list and a request to move to alternative GP will be issued. Please read our Zero tolerance policy.
We ask all patients to be respectful to all members of staff.
